The exhibition LENA CRONQVIST at Värmlands Museum in Karlstad, will be the first museum exhibition after the artist’s passing in the summer of 2025. Exhibition opens on 23 May 2026 and runs until 17 January 2027.
With the passing of Lena Cronqvist (1938-2025) Sweden lost one of its greatest and most influential artists from the mid 20th century and onwards. The exhibition at Värmlands Museum, Karlstad, marks the beginning of a new era, in which we have to navigate her artistry without the artist’s sharp eye and clear conception of installation and presentation.
The exhibition consists of Cronqvist’s paintings, from the 1960’s to the very last works from 2021. It also includes a generous selection of her sculptures in bronze and terracotta, as well as drawing, sketches, and prints.
An extensive catalogue has been produced by the museum in conjunction with the exhibition, with texts by, among others, Magnus Bons, Olle Granath and Anna Persson.
